I believe Dragonfly that our names are channeled at birth and hold great numeroligical meaning. I also believe that our names hold our life lesson I.e Amanda means worthy of love. In truth I give love out all the time but seem unable to receive. Lol. So I have to work on that it would seem. I came into this world with issues of unworthyness and my life experiences have echoed.

All about humility! Lol

actually amanda it's latin; amo, amare, amavi, amatatus. it's the future passive participle meaning "She who is about to be loved."

apparently Teresa means "Harvester" in greek or summer.  Or it could be related to the greek island Thera.  Either way I was born in the summer.  My mom originally planned to name me Jessica. (which was the #1 name during the decade I was born.) It's also a pretty common name in Catholicism.  Pretty sure that in a past life I might have been catholic so it's interesting that on a whim my mom named me Teresa.

I hate my name. I always have. I have the most common girls name on the planet. If I google it, even with quotes, I get a million hits. So I feel that my name is nothing special. It also meant nothing really special to my parents, my sister just one day said "I like the name []" and there it was.

My sons' names are more uncommon, but not exactly fraught with deep meaning. My older son's first name comes from a Star Trek episode that I liked, and his middle name was my favorite of my ex husbands friends name.

My younger son......I really wanted to name him Dalamar Jack. I thought that was the coolest name ever. My ex said that sounded like the name of a bar. His actual name came from a friend of mine when I was 5 and his middle name, just cause it sounded good with it.

my name isnt really special, its kind of common actually, but my spelling is one of the uncommon ones. Kaitlin is irish for pure, and my name is spelled in the traditional gaelic spelling. I was suposed to be named shannon (also irish lol) but my mom saw the show air wolf and she liked the name kaitlin better. My middle name is the same as my moms. I always tease my mom that if our last name was still Nuss (which i was told mens nuts in german) that my name would mean pure nuts XD but alas we married into the morses so now i have emerald isles on both sides. Cherokee on both sides too, not really sure how that happened.

haha I didn't find the meaning I've had 2 years worth of latin.  That has been ingrained.  We had to translate so many things..
although i'm a tad rusty I think I remember my teacher saying it means "She will be loved".  I just couldn't find anything online to back it up.  But I think with future will is used to mean that it's about to happen, and be is used in the passive form.  She because amanda is the feminine ending to the amandum,a,um.  Making it the "adjective" form of amo.

omg i know right! its all translations! i wish in my school we focused more on the language though, our teacher was really obsessed with the culture. So i could tell you how a latin home was set up and its typical floorplan but i couldnt remember how to conjugate a verb or set up a sentence (then again i only took one year cuz the school thought calculus was more important than latin so for fourth period they scheduled me for ap calc instead of latin 2) The only thing i really remember from that class is the myths and writing down a verb and crumbling it up into a ball that we chucked at our teacher while she stood there with a sword and shield. Then u went up and grabbed a ball conjugated the verb in whatever tence she told ya and chucked it at ehr again XD

I was almost named Marlo! Because my mom loved Marlo Thomas. lol
Luckily she was out voted. My name is pretty common, I don't mind it, and most people call me by nicknames or a shortened version anyway.
As for my kids......we didn't like or agree on any girls names, we actually picked it from a cast member from a tv show. My second was named after a family member but wasn't a name I liked. Oddly enough they both ended up with 8 letter first names and three letter middle names.

It's funny Lady, everyone who meets me says I look like a Veronica or a Vanessa..LoL.  Wish my mom had known how to spell one of those names .  she's not the best speller in the world.  She originally spelled my first name wrong, luckily my dad spelled it the way he wanted.  I was his girl from the start

My Dad has admitted he has no idea why I was given the name Anthony.  My middle name comes from my Great Grandfather.

As for my kids.  My oldest was named well ahead of birth, my ex wife and haggled for awhile.  My 2nd, I heard the first name watching football and his middle names are after my ex's father and myself.

My deceased daughter my wife and named her after my sister, then also with 2 middle names that just kinda fit.

Our littlest one we researched Social security lists and naming sites for the more popular names...then eliminated them...and choose names that were in the lower %ile.  LOL

My step son was named before I met my wife...so I had no play in that one.

I always liked having a fairly uncommon name. (Did you Esca?)  It was nice knowing when I was being talked to in class that the teacher ACTUALLY meant ME.  And I liked that it made me feel special.

It did annoy me that it isn't spelled the usual way it is in the US... and that teachers sometimes tried to tell me I was spelling my own name wrong.... (duhhh)

In Australia, there are a lot more Tanyas and when I lived in Germany, again, a lot with all sorts of spellings...

I wanted to give my daughter a similar name.. something her own, but not so odd that it was a source of trouble (my sister's name is Ilsa, and people ALWAYS assumes it was a typo and meant to be Lisa... I think it annoys the shit out of her that even her PhD has her name misspelled on it)

So...I named my kid "Vivian" not too odd, not anything Bibilical as I'm not into Yaweh religions..  Vivian supposedly gave King Arthur Excalibur.... she was the Lady of the Lake. It's pretty old fashioned.. but she has this pre-raphelite look to her.. so.. it seems to work for her.

Thought about "Rhiannon" "Fiona" and "Elva" too.. but they didn't quite make the cut.
