Yes we have this every year too, but we give gifts at the end of the school year. This year we gave a Best teacher mug, chocolates and flpowers, she was a very special teacher and it was Jazzy's last year of primary school.

Rice Bags are simple, easy and inexpensive if you can sew. Make a fabric rectangle. Fill it not too tight, not too loose with rice. Sew closed. I used an old sleeve to cover mine so the sleeve is washable.

Directions. Heat in microwave 1 to 2 minutes. Use for a tight stressful neck like a portable heating pad.

I agree with Tanya, I have an unusually high number of teachers in my family. Although they are of course appreciated, all those trinkets, mugs and what not quickly pile up!
I think the best gifts for teachers are disposable....as in a nice box of chocolates, herbal teas or even flowers or a fruit basket. Gift certificates are also great idea, most teachers spend a lot of their own money on supplies for their classroom, so gift cards to teacher supply stores, book stores, staples, etc would make a nice gift.

i was thinking a JAR of something like a far of complete brownie mix or cookie mix the kids can make for them?  or a picture frame and disposable camera, or a gift bag of goodies such as office supplies for their desks.  I hate gifting for people i dont know especially MEN.

A donation of classroom supplies is nice too.

So the teacher's a guy? hmmm...idk I've only had maybe 3 male teachers in public school.  My 6th grade science teacher, my 8th grade math teacher, and my 9th grade science teacher...by the time I had male teachers I had stopped giving gifts to teachers. (in 5th grade we started switching classrooms and I had more than one teacher....so my family was poor and cheap and didn't have the money to buy 5 teacher different gifts)..if we did it was probably chocolate covered cherries.   I like the idea of a jar of cookies or brownie mix...markers for their board? chalk? flowers to brighten up the classroom? a vase!
